UZ.IP has just raised funds to accelerate. Large international groups already use the platform every day, and others are joining us. We need a new software engineer: someone who wants to make a powerful product feel obvious, and to grow with it.
UZ.IP IN A FEW WORDS
A trademark that is not used can be lost. To defend or renew it, a company must prove its genuine use: invoices, catalogues, advertisements, web pages, dated and linked to the right countries, goods and services. For a portfolio of thousands of trademarks, this work is still largely done by hand.
UZ.IP automates it. The platform collects the documents, analyses them with an ML pipeline and AI that apply the legal criteria of the trademark offices, then builds, in a few clicks, evidence files ready to be filed.
- Born in Lyon in 2023, founded by two French IP attorneys (Conseils en Propriété Industrielle) and two engineers.
- Partner of Questel, one of the world leaders in intellectual property software.
- Clients: international groups in pharma, automotive, luxury, energy and telecoms, and IP law firms.
- An ML pipeline in production, at the heart of the product.
WHY THIS ROLE, NOW
For two years, the product has grown at the pace of client requests. It is rich and used by demanding experts; its experience now has to live up to their expectations.
Our CTO has taken the platform back in hand and is building the tech team in-house. We are looking for the person who will own the product experience, end to end. The playing field is rare: a product that has found its market, expert users who want to talk to us, and real room for improvement on every user journey.
YOUR MISSION
Take UZ.IP from a set of features to an experience that is obvious, reliable and enjoyable, and ship what matters to our clients every week.
Product and UX
- Lead the UX redesign: map the key user journeys, spot the pain points, prototype, test with users and ship in iterations.
- Make analysis results understandable: explain a score, a date, an attribution, so that users trust what they file with a trademark office.
- Lay the foundations of a design system and a library of accessible components.
Roadmap and clients
- Challenge and co-build the roadmap with the CTO and the founders: propose, prioritise, and know how to say no.
- Turn client feedback into product decisions; take part in client meetings and user-testing debriefs.
- Track actual usage and measure the impact of what you ship.
Full-stack engineering
- Design and ship features end to end: Angular front end, Node.js and TypeScript API, MongoDB, Azure.
- Fix bugs at the root, write the missing tests and move the CI forward.
- Keep performance up on large volumes: files of thousands of documents, PDFs of several hundred pages.
Building the team
- Shape the engineering culture with the CTO: high standards, writing, code reviews, AI-assisted development.
- Take part in the next hires and, as the team grows, lead it on the product side.
OUR STACK
Angular · TypeScript · Node.js / Express · MongoDB · Python · Azure · Playwright · GitHub Actions · Terraform · Linear · Claude Code
Nobody ticks every box. What matters: being comfortable with TypeScript and a modern front-end framework. The rest can be learned quickly.
YOUR PROFILE
- 3+ years of experience in software development, some of it on SaaS products used by real clients.
- A strong product sense: you start from the user's problem, not from the ticket; you know how to make trade-offs and explain your choices.
- A taste for UI and UX: attention to detail, crystal-clear user journeys, clean components.
- A command of TypeScript and a modern front-end framework (ideally Angular), and ease on the back end: Node.js, REST APIs, databases.
- Users first: you enjoy talking to clients, understanding their work and seeing your work being used.
- Autonomy, pragmatism and good writing skills: we work a lot in writing and asynchronously.
- AI is already part of the way you code, with method: review, tests, critical thinking.
- Fluent French and professional English.
Nice to have
- Experience in an early-stage startup.
- B2B products for experts (legal, finance, healthcare…), document tools.
- ML / LLM pipelines in production, Azure.
- Curiosity about intellectual property. No prerequisite: we will explain everything.
WHAT WE OFFER YOU
- A founding role. You are among the first, with a direct impact on the product, the roadmap and the tech culture.
- A career path. If UZ.IP takes off as planned, you are first in line to lead the product and tech team.
- Real problems. AI applied to legal evidence, large volumes, and the standards of large corporate clients.
- A complementary team. Two IP attorneys and two engineers at the helm.
- The means to move forward. A recent funding round, modern tools and AI at the heart of the way we work.
- Lyon, hybrid, with remote work possible from France. €50k to €60k gross per year, depending on experience.
THE PROCESS
- A first 45-minute conversation with Lieven, CTO.
- A product and technical interview around a real UZ.IP case.
- A meeting with the founders.
- References, then our offer.
Two weeks at most, with feedback after each step.
